On behalf of Vanderbilt Health Department of Pediatrics and Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, CareerPhysician, the leader in child health executive search and leadership development, is pleased to announce the inception of a national search for an accomplished Child Neurologist who will serve as Director for the Division of Pediatric Neurology and as the inaugural Co-Director for the new Pediatric Neuroscience Institute.
This exceptional opportunity will allow the successful candidate to both lead a top-tier division while co-directing the strategic development of a highly integrated Pediatric Neuroscience Institute. The successful leader will shape the future of pediatric neuroscience in the region while advancing innovations across clinical care, translational science, and education at one of the nation’s premier academic health systems. The Division of Pediatric Neurology is undergoing significant growth and currently includes 16 faculty neurologists, 1 PhD researcher, and 7 advanced practice providers. Six (6) additional pediatric neurology faculty members and 1 APP are scheduled to join by November 2026. Subspecialty expertise spans epilepsy, stroke, neuromuscular disorders, movement disorders, neuroimmunology, and complex neurodevelopmental conditions. The Division supports a thriving Child Neurology Residency program and multiple ACGME-accredited fellowships, with significant growth in faculty, programs, and research over the past decade.
As Co-Director of the Pediatric Neuroscience Institute, the selected leader will play an instrumental role in the development and implementation of a strategy that will effectively coalesce all pediatric neuroscience practices and organizations into one nationally respected institute.

Clinical and Research Distinction:
- Level 4 Epilepsy Center with the highest surgical volume in the state
- Nationally recognized programs in stroke, Rett syndrome, tuberous sclerosis, leukodystrophy, and neuromuscular disease
- Robust NIH-funded research portfolio in epilepsy, stroke, and neurodevelopmental disorders
- Established national and international research platforms in epilepsy and stroke
- Strong physician-scientist development infrastructure supporting early-career investigators
The ideal candidate is a nationally or internationally recognized pediatric neurologist with a distinguished record of academic achievement, program development, and leadership. The successful leader will bring a clear strategic vision, a collaborative leadership style, and a demonstrated commitment to advancing clinical excellence, discovery, and education across pediatric neuroscience.
The individual will be a visionary academic physician committed to the Department’s mission to improve the lives of children through excellence in patient care, research, and the development of future pediatric leaders.

Required Qualifications:
- Medical doctorate or equivalent
- Board certification in Pediatrics and Pediatric Neurology
- Eligible for medical licensure in the State of Tennessee
Preferred Qualifications:
- Nationally or internationally recognized leader in pediatric neurology or related field
- Demonstrated leadership experience in academic medicine (division, program, or institute level)
- Strategic vision for integrated clinical, educational, and research missions
- Strong record of collaboration, mentorship, and academic program development
