Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Has responsibility for operational execution, oversight and coordination of Research Grants and Contracts (RGC) and management of overall research financial compliance as it pertains to central post-award administration.
  • Acts in an autonomous manner to ensure the compliant, effective and efficient post-award administration of sponsored programs for the University.
  • Serves as the Vice President for Research Administration's (VPRA) senior advisor on all financial and post award compliance matters related to grants and contracts operations and how their impact on current and future state changes in operations.
  • Reviews key finance-related functions that currently reside under the VPRA related to grants and contracts administration and ensures the appropriate assignment of these activities, including securing an appropriate staffing structure.
  • Manages the remaining close out of current backlog.
  • Collaborates with peers outside of ORA to ensure smooth handoffs in processes and resolution of issues which arise.
  • Implements process improvements to enhance quality and efficiency.
  • Creates and implements relevant processes and procedures, where needed, and participates in the upgrade of systems related to post award financial management of sponsored awards.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors policies and procedures regarding Post-Award financial administration activities in collaboration with senior level administration across the institution.
  • Acts as the liaison between principal investigators, Research Administration Services, departments, and schools with research sponsors regarding all functions currently handled by RGC.
  • These include, but are not limited to, award setup, RGC financial research administration training, research-related regulatory and fiscal reporting, invoicing, and closeout of awards.
  • Collects, understands, and outlines the key activities within these functions and ensures the organizational structure is designed to best meet the needs of the research community and implements these changes.
  • Effectively manages the needs of sponsors, provides the information that the research community needs, and manages the institutional risk related to Post-Award financial administration.
  • Develops and monitors performance and customer service levels.
  • Ensures that RGC and RAS staff members have required training and understands their role in the organization.
  • Develops approaches for managing work so that activities remain current, including development and implementation of relevant processes and procedures.
  • Implements a functioning quality control function.
  • Monitors ongoing projects and ensures completion as planned.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.


Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a related field and 10 years of progressively responsible research administration experience, including several years managing a large team(s) in a university setting or service-oriented financial organization.
  • Master's degree in Finance, Business Administration or related field is preferred.
  • Proven ability to build relationships across multiple constituency groups.
  • Experience in strategic planning to lead change and influence stakeholders to bring about process improvements is strongly preferred.
