Abilene Christian University invites applications for a Campus Health Promotion and Outreach Specialist who will lead innovative, evidence-based health promotion efforts within the Medical & Counseling Care Center (MACCC). This position advances a holistic vision of student well-being—integrating physical, emotional, relational, and spiritual health—through strategic prevention programming, campus-wide collaboration, and data-informed assessment. The Specialist plays a vital role in shaping a campus culture where students are not only supported in moments of need, but equipped for lifelong health and leadership.
Position: Campus Health Promotion and Outreach Specialist, Medical & Counseling Care Center (MACCC)
For the purposes of ACU’s Background Check and Self-Reporting Policy, this position is classified as security sensitive
Position: Exempt/Full-Time
The key principles of this job are to:
1. Support ACU’s Mission: Educate students for Christian service and leadership throughout the world

Support the MACCC Mission: Our mission is to encourage personal growth and physical health through a holistic approach that enhances spiritual, physical, emotional and relational well-being, through education, healthcare and wise counsel to the ACU community while promoting a spirit of respect and integrity
Scope: The Promotion and Outreach Specialist serves as the strategic lead for campus-wide health promotion and prevention efforts. This role is responsible for assessing campus needs, implementing evidence-based prevention initiatives, measuring program effectiveness, and cultivating cross-campus partnerships that advance student well-being at a population level.
I. Basic Responsibilities: These are the major functions of the job
A. Facilitate Health and Wellness Education to our Campus
B. Oversee Marketing and Outreach for the MACCC
C. Plan Prevention Initiatives for both Medical and Counseling
D. Collaborate with the Director of MACCC in administrative functions as required

A. Facilitate Health and Wellness Education to our Campus
1. Plan education initiatives to further educate our campus on health and wellness topics (alcohol/drugs, women’s health, suicide prevention, eating disorder awareness, etc.)
2. Serve as a resource for students needing alcohol and drug related support and/or referral
i. Implement the BASICS (Brief Alcohol. Screening and Intervention for College Students) program based out of the MACCC with students either mandated to participate via the Dean of Students or voluntarily requesting the program
ii. Offer resources, referral and support to these students (counseling, educational materials and other resources)
iii. Create a campus collaboration team made up of key campus partners and student leaders to help educate the campus about the risks of alcohol and drugs
3. Research best practices and state laws to ensure we are meeting the health and wellness educational requirements for an institution of higher education
B. Oversee Marketing and Outreach for the MACCC.
1. Plan and implement marketing strategies to connect students and our campus community to the services that we provide
2. Manage our social media and other outreach tools
3. Collaborate with the Director of the MACCC to complete strategic plans and outcomes assessments to increase impact and value of the MACCC within the ACU community
4. Attend NSO (New Student Orientation) and other resource fairs on campus to distribute materials to parents and students about the MACCC
5. Lead in planning campus-wide events, lectures, and presentations that highlight the MACCC and its professionals
6. Partner with SGA (Student Government Association) to lead the student collaboration group. This group helps connect us with the needs of the students and our ability to meet them where they are
C. Plan prevention initiatives for both medical and counseling.
1. Help maintain quality and development of the Wellness Wheel (tool created in house to teach students about holistic wellness; integrates with Suitable app).
i. Collaborate with campus partners to ensure information is up to date and relevant in each section
ii. Research best practices to ensure material is relevant and up to date
iii. Help coordinate continued growth of the Wellness Wheel (marketing, content rotations, incentive updates, etc.)
2. Collaborate in the planning and implementation of Flu shot clinics around campus
3. Collaborate in the planning and implementation of TB clinics around campus
4. Provide clear and consistent education regarding suicide awareness and prevention, including yearly campus wide events as well as timely information disseminated to campus matching national days of recognition.
5. Conduct annual campus needs assessment and assist in analyzing utilization and prevention data
6. Research and implement best practices for prevention efforts on university campuses involving health and wellness
7. Prepare annual prevention impact report
D. Collaborates with the Director of the MACCC in administrative planning, operational management, and strategic initiatives as needed
1. Serve as a support to Director of the MACCC for financial and administrative inquiries
2. Participate in activities of Medical and Counseling Staff, SRWC Professional staff and Student Life teams and meetings as required
3. Provide technical support to the professionals in the MACCC when possible or assist them in getting issues resolved in a timely fashion
4. Other duties as may be assigned
III. Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform this job.
A. Professional
1. Preferred Master’s degree in Public Health (Health Education and Promotion) or a similar field
2. Preferred certification in health education
3. Skills in planning, analyzing and coordinating activities and establishing connections with other departments and areas on campus
4. Demonstrated ability to initiate, manage, and complete projects independently with minimal oversight
5. Strong knowledge on how to build and maintain a marketing and outreach strategy on a university campus
6. Working knowledge of medical terminology or willingness to learn
7. Working knowledge of computer operating systems and willingness to learn.
8. Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced university environment

VI. Physical Demands: These are physical demands that are regularly required to perform this job.
A. Ability to work in a fast moving, multi-tasking environment.
B. Ability to sustain physical effort through up to eight-hour workdays and endurance to carry out those duties throughout the school year.
C. Ability to work in a space limited environment.
