Hood College, an independent liberal arts college located on a striking and stunningly picturesque campus in the vibrant central Maryland city of Frederick, seeks a Vice President for Finance (VPF). As Chief Financial Officer, the VPF will serve as a key strategic partner for President Andrea E. Chapdelaine and a dynamic leader for the Finance Division.

The College's well-regarded faculty and caring support staff provide a quality education at the undergraduate and graduate levels in a small-college environment that integrates the liberal arts with professional studies and experiential learning. Hood's core values and traditions, its commitment to continuous improvement and comparative excellence, and its record of exceeding student expectations, have made it a treasured institution to current students and to graduates living in the United States and around the world.

Frederick, the fastest-growing city in Maryland, is a thriving and friendly community that is conveniently located near Washington, D.C., and Baltimore, Md.—and 30 minutes from the I-270 biomedical and technology corridor. The region combines a vibrant, growing, diverse, urban atmosphere with rich opportunities for outdoor experiences and activities.

Financially, Hood College remains strong. At the end of Fiscal Year 2021, total assets had grown to $239 million with long-term liabilities of only $39 million. The endowment was valued at $134 million, or approximately $87,000 per student. The College has a history of sound financial discipline in managing its $47 million budget, which has result in consistent operating surpluses and positive cash flows from operations. An exemplary capital budgeting process has also led to significant investments in the physical plant, including the recent construction of a new residence hall and a major renovation of the library, as well as low deferred maintenance.

The Finance Division assists the campus community in allocating the institution's financial, physical and technology resources in an efficient and effective manner to advance the mission of Hood College. This is achieved by collaborating with other divisions to strategically utilize resources in a manner which strengthens the College's academic programs and the students' holistic educational experience. The division strives to provide outstanding services to the campus community while monitoring compliance with financial and administrative policies. The division includes the following offices: Accounting Services, Treasury and Budget Management, Information Technology, Campus Facilities, and Auxiliary Services.

As the Chief Financial Officer, the VPF has broad and strategic responsibilities and provides significant financial, administrative and managerial support to the President. Acting under direction of the President, the VPF serves as the Treasurer for the College and serves as the liaison to the audit and risk management, facilities, finance and investment committees of the Board of Trustees. The VPF oversees and is responsible for all areas of the Finance Division of the College. The ideal candidate will hold an MBA or possess an equivalent advanced degree or experience, have superior analytical and business acumen, and possess a deep knowledge of budgeting processes and financial controls and strategic planning. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate successful and progressive professional and leadership experience suitable for appointment at the vice-presidential level.

Additional desired abilities and attributes, as well as a full list of duties and responsibilities, are in the profile, which can be found here.
