Valley Children’s Hospital, in partnership with The Stanford University School of Medicine, Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery is seeking an experienced congenital heart surgeon to lead the Willson Heart Center at Valley Children’s Hospital located in Madera, California. In addition, a second surgeon to join the program is also being sought. The candidates should be board eligible/certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery or its equivalent, in Congenital Cardiac Surgery. The ideal candidates would have excellent technical skills, a proven record for high quality outcomes, and demonstrated aptitude in program development. An academic appointment in the Clinician Educator Line at Stanford University, at the appropriate professorial level, will be offered. The Clinician Educator role is defined by engagement in clinical care, teaching, administrative and/or scholarly activities that advance clinical medicine.
Valley Children's Healthcare was founded more than 70 years ago by five visionary mothers who dreamed of establishing a children’s hospital to provide high-quality healthcare for the children of central California close to home. Over the last 70 years, that vision has grown into one of the largest pediatric healthcare networks in the nation, seeing over 600,000 patients across the spectrum of care. Valley Children’s offers highly specialized medical and surgical services to care for children with conditions ranging from common to the highly complex at the 358-bed stand-alone children’s hospital that includes 28 regional NICU beds, regional specialty care centers, pediatric primary care practices and women’s health services. Valley Children’s serves newborns, infants, children, teenagers, and young adults and includes the region’s largest Maternal Fetal Medicine program.
The Willson Heart Center at Valley Children’s and its cardiothoracic surgery program provide comprehensive cardiovascular care for a full range of heart conditions in children, including the most rare and complex congenital and acquired heart disease. Heart surgeons specialize in hypoplastic left heart syndrome, mitral valve prolapse, Tetralogy of Fallot, congenital heart defects, including ventricular septal defect, transposition of the great arteries, and other conditions.
The selected Heart Center Medical Director candidate will assume program and surgical leadership responsibility as the Willson Heart Center Medical Director. The surgeon will be both an integral part of the Stanford congenital cardiac surgery team and provide strategic leadership for the Valley Children’s pediatric cardiovascular program, guiding clinical operations, multidisciplinary teams, and program development to deliver highquality, familycentered care for children with congenital and acquired heart disease for the Valley Children’s Heart Center, including expectations for program growth and development, as well as opportunities for research and scholarship. The Heart Center Medical Director will also oversee program quality and safety metrics, develop clinical faculty, and collaborate with cardiologists, intensivists, imaging, and nursing to align with hospital goals and community needs.
Qualifications for the position include obtaining a current valid and unrestricted California medical license.
Pursuant to California statute, the salary range is provided. The expected base pay range for this position is:
Assistant Professor: $300,000 - $365,000
Associate Professor: $440,000 - $470,000
Professor: $525,000 - $555,000
This pay range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. It does not include all components of the School of Medicine’s faculty compensation program or pay from participation in departmental incentive compensation programs.
